Newegg Turns to Flipswap for Competitive Edge

January 6th, 2008

Los Angeles, CA January 6, 2008 – Newegg.com, the largest online-only retailer in the US focused on computer and electronics hardware, software and components, and Flipswap, Inc., (http://www.flipswap.com), a pioneer in mobile device trade-in programs and services for retailers, have agreed to a partnership on the heels of the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) that will make waves in cellular e-tailing.

Bolstered by rapid growth over the last year, Newegg.com plans to broaden their computer-centric offerings to include mobile phones. “Newegg’s rapid expansion places us in the top tier of online retailers, giving us the opportunity to expand in another major segment,” said Lawrence Jackowski, Product Management Director of NewEgg’s wireless division in the U.S. To set themselves apart in the crowded arena of cellular e-tailers, Newegg.com has struck a deal with Flipswap, Inc. that will allow them to take advantage of Flipswap’s unique inWare™ service.

Flipswap’s proprietary, customizable web-based application will enable Newegg.com customers to quickly and accurately determine the guaranteed trade-in value of their used phone. Customers will then ship the phone to Flipswap and receive Newegg.com store credit or a rebate check. Flipswap collects the old phones and facilitates their reuse, or recycles them using the latest environmentally safe methods. At Flipswap, re-use is the key element of an eco-friendly, economically viable strategy – a remarkable ninety five percent of the phones collected by Flipswap are put back into use.

Retailers and e-tailers currently using Flipswap’s bevy of services have seen a sharp increase in activations. Sohrob Farudi, Flipswap’s CEO, explains why large corporations like Newegg.com are turning to Flipswap, “A customer with credit in hand is ready to buy. Our retailer network has seen increased activations and a consistent ability to up-sell products and services.” The average trade-in credit offered through Flipswap is $30. Newer, high-end mobile multimedia devices can be traded in for as much as $300. “Flipswap’s commitment to being green and reducing global e-waste is an added bonus for our customers,” says Farudi, whose commitment to the environment extends well beyond the Flipswap offices.

About Flipswap

Flipswap makes it easy to give mobile phones a second shot at life by offering fast, free and eco-friendly ways to trade them in. The average American buys a new cell phone every 12 months, which means more than one hundred million perfectly good phones become unused, unwanted, and unloved every year. To help maximize the useful life of each phone, Flipswap created a unique way of collecting them so they could be put back into use. Now instead of being thrown in a drawer or in the trash, cell phones can be traded in for instant store credit at one of over 4,000 participating Flipswap retail locations, or traded-in online. In 2007 alone Flipswap put enough phones back into use to keep the equivalent of 50 tons of solid waste, most of it toxic, out of landfills. So whether you’ve got one old phone in a drawer at home or a warehouse of overstocked or returned handsets, Flipswap’s family of services will pay you to be one of the good guys. It has never been this easy to be green! For more information, please visit Flipswap on the web at www.flipswap.com.
